Edward Meyer Grandfather Clock Questions

This is a quest post by the Antique Clocksmith.

Question: What can I do if the chimes on my grandfather clock are not loud enough?

Answer: It really depends on why the chimes on your grandfather clock are not loud enough. If they were loud enough at one time and over time they have gotten softer, then it is very likely that the clockworks inside your longcase clock are either dirty and need to be cleaned or they are worn and need to be serviced. In either case your best option is to call a qualified clock repairman or clocksmith to inspect your clock and recommend the best course of action. If the chimes on your grandfather clock have never been loud enough, then it is likely that an adjustment to the striking hammer(s) will do the trick. Again this is best performed by a professional as making an incorrect adjustment to the mechanism can damage your clock.

Question: My friend raised a question about my Edward Meyer clock quality. Are they good clocks?

Answer: Yes, Edward Meyer clocks, and especially Edward Meyer grandfather clocks, are good quality timepieces. The old adage is true with clocks as well, you will get what you pay for. There are other manufacturers (Howard Miller Clocks) that sell more expensive clocks that will go longer between servicing however, there is no reason, with proper care and regular servicing, that your Edward Meyer Clock can't last as long as any other clock on the market. If you find one and you like it, that makes it valuable to you and you should consider adding it to your family. With any grandfather clock, be sure to have it delivered and professionally installed and adjusted for best results! (NOTE: Seth Thomas Clocks are very good and can be very expensive as well, fyi)

Thanks for your questions. I hope these few words have helped. If you have any other questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments below or visit us over at the Antique Clocksmith!
